Energy Efficiency at Home
...10 Easy Tips...
Close curtains at night to slow heat
loss through windows.
Turn off lights upon leaving a room.
Do not leave appliances on standby if
possible, standby modes often consume
almost as much as when on.
Boil only the amount of water
required—don’t fill the kettle to the
brim.
Ensure that hot water cylinder
thermostat is set at a maximum of
60°C/140°F.
Defrost your freezer regularly to keep
it running efficiently and cheaply. If
it tends to frost up quickly, check the
door seal.
Avoid putting hot or warm food straight
into the fridge or freezer; allow it to
cool down first.
In just one day, a dripping hot water
tap can waste energy and enough water to
fill a bath. Make sure taps are properly
off.
Don’t leave the fridge or freezer door
open for longer than necessary, as cold
air will escape.
Avoid unnecessary overheating. Turning
your thermostat down by 1 Celsius degree
would cut 300Kg of carbon dioxide
emissions per year. |
